The darker, unfiltered remix
She thought it was love when he said, “You mine,”
Right after he grabbed her and slammed the door.
Nobody told her “love” don’t leave you blind,
So she mistook bruises for something more.
She thought it was love when her uncle stared,
Said, “Don’t tell nobody, you know they’ll blame you.”
So she kept it quiet, said maybe he cared,
Now every man with a grin feel dangerous too.
She thought it was love when she split the bill,
Cooked, cleaned, prayed, and still got cursed.
He said, “I never asked for a woman this real,”
She said, “I guess that’s why I always hurt.”
She thought it was love when she bled through sheets,
Not her period, girl, I’m talkin’ the pain.
Of givin’ herself just to feel complete,
Of layin’ with demons and leavin’ with shame.
They laughed at her body, then paid to see more,
She cried in the mirror while touchin’ her face.
They told her she’d always be used like a whore,
But none of ’em offered a prayer or grace.
She thought it was love when they called her fast,
But no one asked why she dressed that way.
She thought if she glowed, the hurt would pass,
But her cleavage just gave them more to say.
She thought it was love when they said, “Just leave,”
As if healing was simple with nowhere to go.
She tried to rise, but they clipped her wings,
Then called her bitter when she moved too slow.
But God met her low like a secret note,
He held her guilt like it wasn’t too much.
He cleaned the blood from her tattered coat,
And showed her her body was more than touch.
He didn’t ask her what she did in the dark,
Didn’t shame her for staying or fakin’ strong.
He just sat in the ruins and healed her heart,
Taught her that love was a different song.
Not one of control, or fear, or lust,
But one where she rests and laughs and breathes.
Where her name ain’t a weight, and her no means just
No. No more. No please. Just leave.
So now when they ask why she glows like this,
Why her silence feels like thunderous proof
She says, “I thought love was pain… til I met the truth.”
God is love. And He loved me first.
Even when I didn’t know I was worth.
