Part 1 😢 She Thought It Was Love

The original

by Arailyus Kingdom

She thought it was love when he raised his voice,

’Cause nobody clapped when she walked in the room.

She stayed through the cheating like she had no choice,

Confused all the chaos with comfort and bloom.

She thought it was love when the fists would fly,

’Cause daddy said nothing when momma cried.

She learned to be loyal to every lie,

And called it devotion when her soul just died.

She thought it was love when he laid in her bed,

’Cause her body was praised while he ignored her pain .

He’d whisper sweet lies just to mess with her head,

Afterwards she’d pray on the floor cause her spirit, not her coochie, was sore.

She thought it was love when they laughed at her fall,

The ones who were silent while she was a child.

Now grown, they blame her for risking it all,

Yet cheer when she bleeds and call her wild.

But let me tell you what love really is

It’s not hands on your waist or lips on your skin.

It’s not staying loyal while losing your sense,

Or begging a boy to let the light in.

Love is the whisper when no one is near.

Love is the peace that replaces your fear.

Love is the arms that don’t need to be seen,

Love is the God who heals what has been.

I didn’t believe I could love what I couldn’t touch,

But He proved me wrong

He did too much.

He held me down when they tore me apart,

And taught me to guard my soul and my heart.

So now I know why I used to confuse

The pleasure of pain with the ache of abuse.

But I ain’t bitter, I’m just aware.

God is love… and He loved me first.

Even when I didn’t know I was worth.
