Exhibit D: The Playlist Called “Softer Side of Me”
He had Apple Music.
Not Spotify. Not Tidal. Not YouTube like the rest of the delinquents I dated—Apple Music.
So already I knew he was trying to give curated energy.
One night we’re chilling and he goes, “Lemme put something on.”
Now in my mind, I’m thinking Summer Walker, Bryson Tiller—vibes.
Instead, I hear Ne-Yo. Then Musiq Soulchild. Then a deep cut from Brian McKnight I ain’t heard since middle school.
Cool, whatever… until I look over and see the playlist title:
“Softer Side of Me.”
Sir.
What in the therapeutic mixtape is going on here?
Each song had a mood emoji next to it.
The man had categories: “Heart Open,” “Lotioned & Vulnerable,” and my personal favorite, “Grown Man Whispers.”
I was stuck.
Like, do I compliment the range? Do I cry?
Or do I silently Google “signs your man is mentally in a safe place but physically somewhere else.”
